Pilates classes at Brooklands Park Community Centre – led by a certified physiotherapist and APPI trained Pilates instructor
Pilates is a low impact full body workout that focuses on breathing, core control and precise movements. Attending Pilates regularly is a great way to improve strength, mobility, coordination and balance whilst working within your own limits. The focus on core control means it can be particularly helpful for people with lower back pain, or postnatally but anyone can benefit – I have successfully used Pilates techniques in my physiotherapy practice with athletes including rugby players, power lifters, martial artists, runners and dancers. I have also found it a great way to introduce exercise for those with hypermobility and/or fatigue related conditions.
My classes are mat based but we will often use equipment such as bands, balls or light weights to make exercises more or less challenging, focus on using different muscles or to add variety. The exercises themselves also have many variations meaning classes can easily be adapted across multiple levels. As a physiotherapist, I focus on making sure your movements are done with as much precision and control as possible as I find that with increased body awareness, even a basic exercise can still feel challenging for an experienced Pilates practitioner.
If you have any concerns about whether a class is right for you, check out my FAQ or, alternatively, contact me.
